A Salty and Vibrant Chardonnay – The Gaun by Alois Lageder
The Gaun Chardonnay combines the salty freshness and vibrant structure of a modern wine with the tradition and expertise of Alois Lageder. The grapes thrive on the sandy and stony calcareous soils of the Margreid debris cone at an altitude of 230 to 250 meters above sea level. The name "Gaun" originates from the family that established the Löwengang estate in the 17th century.
In a golden-yellow hue with a subtle greenish shimmer, this Chardonnay shines in the glass. The bouquet unfolds delicate aromas of apricot and mango, complemented by a buttery undertone that highlights its freshness and complexity.
On the palate, the wine reveals a medium-weight structure, lively and juicy, with a refined opulence and a dry finish.
This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with appetizers, fish, shellfish, and crustaceans (best grilled or roasted), as well as pork, veal, and poultry.
The winemaking process includes spontaneous fermentation and aging on fine lees, both in wooden barrels and stainless steel tanks, for approximately 9 months.
The Gaun Chardonnay reaches its drinking maturity after about 2 years and continues to develop over a period of 6 years, refining its vibrant structure and salty elegance to perfection.
