A Special Merlot from South Tyrol – Powerful and Layered
South of Margreid lies the "15er" vineyard, which gives the XV Merlot its name. This special vineyard has been planted with Merlot vines since 1957 and is characterized by sandy-loam soils with a significant calcareous content. The constant ventilation from the warm "Ora" wind from Lake Garda supports the development of a characterful Merlot.
The XV Merlot displays an intense cherry-red color with ruby reflections. The bouquet reveals a pronounced, concentrated fruit aroma, accompanied by peppery-spicy and vegetal notes.
On the palate, the wine shows a medium-bodied, balanced structure. It is fresh, slightly bitter, soft, and dry, making it an excellent choice for special occasions. Perfectly pairs with roasted or grilled veal, lamb, game, and aged cheese.
The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in stainless steel, followed by aging in barriques to add structure. The spontaneous fermentation on the skins adds depth and character.
This Merlot reaches its optimal drinking maturity after approximately 2 years, with further development up to 8 years, gaining additional complexity and finesse.
